Live From the Funktion by Nicofasho & Azmito is the California-based duo’s first album, foraying into their own modern funk and g-funk lane. Nicofasho, a bay area native rapper, emcees the album and hosts the funktion with elastic lyrical styles, alongside Los Angeles-based producer Azmito’s sample-rich or composed brand of brash, fluid funk. The album originated through a chance connection, as a by-product of the first wave of global pandemic lockdowns, and the duo have worked mostly virtually for a year and a half to bring the funktion to life alongside fixtures in the west coast modern funk and hip hop scene like XL Middleton, Moniquea, Jay Worthy, G Perico, Diamond Ortiz and more. Live From the Funktion grew from a virtual vision to a reality, and the album’s tones fluctuate between being a smooth soundtrack to ride to, late night dedications and lush party jams. The album can be the soundtrack to anyone’s funktion, virtual or in person.
